Welcome to Mini Professors, the first science program that has been designed specifically for preschool children.
Our Parent & Child classes run weekly during term time and we welcome budding scientists as young as 2 years old!
We believe that science should be accessible to all. As with any language, children can easily absorb and learn from an early age. That is why we endeavour not to dumb down scientific terminology but explain scientific principles in simple terms with fun experiments. We encourage our Mini Professors to explore for themselves and interact as much as possible.
The Mini Professors classes provide a warm and welcoming environment in which children can not only explore and marvel at science but we also encourage many life skills, such as asking and answering questions, turn taking, sharing and socialising.
We love it when the children interact in the classes, it is a very hand’s on experience – learning through play.
We have a different topic every week, and with more than 70 different topics, your little one (and you) can attend for 2 years and experience something new each week. We cover everything from volcanoes to dinosaurs, maths to tropical rainforests, space and much, much more.
Our Mini Professors get to wear their own mini lab coats and learn about the basic principles of scientific experimentation, whilst having loads of fun and generally getting stuck in.
Each session has 2 hands-on experiments, there is a specific story and a 2 minute bespoke video about the topic of the day. It is lots of fun and there is normally a “I didn't know that!” moment for the parents too.
The children love to get involved in the experiments and it is a great opportunity to prepare them for preschool and school and we encourage the grown ups to join in too and carry on the learning experience at home with their children.
Each Mini Professors session lasts 45 minutes and follows a set format so the children know what to expect next. All the activities are concise and interactive, catering for the many different learning styles and keeping the little ones’ attention!
A typical class starts with our Mini Professors 'Welcome Song', followed by an introduction to the day's topic, with pictures and props, then our first experiment, where we encourage all our Mini Professors and their grown ups to join in (and maybe get messy!). Next we have a short video, related to the scientific topic, then a story followed by another fantastic science experiment. At the end of the lesson we summarise what we've learnt and end with the Mini Professors 'Goodbye Song'.
